Community Development

Wessex Community Action provides practical support and opportunities for people to develop their knowledge and skills, so that they can achieve their goals and aspirations in setting up and developing new and existing organisations, activities and services

We offer practical support and advice to voluntary and community groups to help them become more resilient, able to flourish, and to ensure their projects thrive.

A healthy voluntary, community & social enterprise organisation

We support voluntary and community groups, and social enterprises to develop their organisation infrastructure to ensure they are run effectively and sustainably, so they can get the funding they need to operate smoothly.

We call this help ‘getting fit for funding’, ensuring their organisation has all the right things in place and is being run well to ensure that sustainable funding can be achieved.

The 5 areas of support we provide are:

How we can help

'We are a relatively big provider in Wiltshire, but still need this help. Smaller organisations that don't have some of the additional specialist staff I have, will need WCA even more’.

We work with organisations of all sizes, from a large charity or social enterprise to a small club, community group or a person with a good idea. To help us identify how best to support you, we will meet you either in person or via Zoom to talk about your project and take you through an ‘organisational health check’. This helps us recommend the right information, advice, training, and resources to help you develop your organisation.

What groups have told us about the support we have provided...

"I would like to express our thanks for the huge support given to us by Wessex Community Action. We have raised almost £900,000 and have already started the refurbishment of our derelict 16th century building. Wessex Community Action have helped us by:

  • Proactively keeping in touch with our progress
  • Signposting grant opportunities
  • Offering useful and time sensitive advice about the grant giving industry
  • Providing training for our volunteer team

Wessex Community Action have provided a unique and invaluable source of support.”

Simon Coombe - Chair of the Limpley Stoke Community Benefit Society

“We are only a small club helping with a very large problem of loneliness and isolation in a very rural environment. We have worked with WCA since 2021 using their experience and knowledge to support and help our club with its growing nature to lead us and solve any problems we have through meetings, training courses and packs, both one to one and in groups.

Most recently the help we have had with changing the structure of our club from Sarah Pickering at WCA has been invaluable to us in moving forward in making the club safer, sustainable, and lasting.”

Karen Viner - Corsham Community Club

‘WCA is a great central point for us to access and provides a wealth of information. It helps us to think about our compliance in terms of how we run the group and informs us of our vulnerabilities and risks.’

What will we reject?

Wiltshire Together is not a business directory for commercial organisations, as we would then need to charge advertising rates (which we don’t). We will approve relevant activities added by non-profits.

How quickly will we approve activities?

We aim to approve activities within 2 working days. Our admins do not work Fridays, so activities posted on a Thursday may not be reviewed until Monday.
